Vodafone NZ gets a limited supply of launch day PlayStation 5 consoles

Matt RyanBy Matt RyanNovember 9, 2020

Vodafone New Zealand and PlayStation New Zealand have announced a new partnership, which will begin with a limited number of PlayStation 5 consoles for sale to Vodafone customers on launch day.

The PlayStation 5 launches this Thursday, November 12, but a variety of factors mean the initial supply is very limited—launch day pre-orders sold out within a couple of hours, with subsequent shipments already sold out at most stores until next year.

Through this partnership, Vodafone customers who missed out on the initial pre-order rush have another shot at a getting launch day PlayStation 5 console. Orders will open on November 12 through the Vodafone online store only; there won’t be any consoles available to purchase in-store. Both the standard PlayStation 5 console ($819.95) and disc-less Digital Edition ($649.95) will be available to order.

This is the first part of a partnership between Vodafone and PlayStation “with the ultimate aim of boosting digital inclusion throughout Aotearoa through the medium of gaming”.

“A great many Kiwis already enjoy gaming with PlayStation, and we look forward to helping even more of our customers discover the benefits it can bring through this partnership,” says Vodafone Consumer Director Carolyn Luey. “Gaming brings people together, and develops valuable skills such as problem-solving, concentration and critical thinking. It is enjoyed by people of all walks of life, age and gender, and is increasing in popularity at an exponential rate.”

According to Goncalo Fialho, General Manager of Sony Interactive ANZ, the partnership will unlock “an enhanced level of gaming that is more accessible to New Zealanders than ever before.”

I’ll be sharing some my thoughts on the PlayStation 5 console and launch games starting this Thursday. In the meantime, here’s a list of the launch games you can look forward to.
