Today, DELiGHTWORKS Inc. unveiled the latest addition to the roster for the upcoming 2D fighting game Melty Blood: Type Lumina: Vlov Arkhangel, a long-range fighter who wields the powers of fire and ice.
In battle, Vlov can switch between Flame Mode and Ice Mode, the latter of which gives him “nearly unrivaled strength”. He specialises in long-range attacks and zoning, but as you can see in his battle preview below, he has some decent tools to use up close, and can get some good damage going, too. We’ll no doubt get a better picture of his overall playstyle later on—DELiGHTWORKS has been sticking with a pattern of introducing characters with “battle previews”, before releasing full match videos later on—but for now, this teaser gives a good idea of what to expect.
Type Lumina is Vlov’s first Melty Blood appearance, but he made his visual novel debut inTsukihime: A Piece of Blue Glass Moon, which launched in Japan earlier this year (and, unfortunately, has no plans for a worldwide release at this stage). Story-wise, he’s the nineteenth of the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors (vampires, essentially), and travelled from the cold far north to Souya for unknown reasons. He needs to feed on blood for warmth, which also powers his flamed-based attacks.
Vlov Arkhangel is the 11th character to be revealed for Type Lumina, joining the previously-announced Shiki Tohno, Arcueid, Brunestud, Akiha Tohno, Ciel, Hisuki, Kohaku, Kouma Kishima, Miyako Arima, Noel, and Michael Roa Valdamjong.
As well as the Vlov reveal, DELiGHTWORKS also shared new match footage of Hisui vs Kohaku:
Melty Blood: Type Lumina launches September 30 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (Steam).
