It feels like it’s been a long time coming, but we finally have a release date for The Good Life, and it’s less than a month away: Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro and White Owls’ “debt repayment RPG” launches October 15.
Swery announced the release date for The Good Life during this morning’s Escapist Showcase, along with a new trailer introducing some of the things players can expect to find when they visit Rainy Woods. The game follows a photojournalist from New York as she travels to a quaint British town to try pay off a debt with her photography skills, only to get caught up in a murder investigation (and the town’s strange phenomena of people turning into cats and dogs at night). It’s a blend of cozy life sim, photography game, and mystery investigation, with a dash of Swery’s unique sense of humour and surreal twists.
Here’s an overview of The Good Life, from its Steam store listing:
Naomi Hayward finds herself far from her New York home. Out of her depth and drowning in debt, she is commissioned by The Morning Bell newspaper to uncover the mystery behind Rainy Woods – a rural English town considered to be the ‘happiest in the world’. With her camera at the ready she starts her investigation but soon finds that the town – and its wonderfully quirky residents – are hiding many secrets. Not least, why they transform into cats and dogs at night. Caught up in the town’s enchantment – Naomi must use her new found animal skills to uncover the truth about Rainy Woods.
“We’re so overjoyed that we can finally announce the release date to our backers and fans, especially after knowing how patiently you’ve all been waiting,” wrote Swery in a Kickstarter update. “It’s been four long years since we first announced this game at PAX 2017… It’s only thanks to your kindness and understanding that we were able to readjust the development schedule several times and make it to this exciting day.
“The game still isn’t out yet, though, so we’re not about to let ourselves rest. We’re going to keep working our hardest until the game reaches every last one of you, so please keep your eyes peeled!
“We’ll be posting a few more updates and releasing more news leading up to October 15th, so we hope you’re all excited!”
The Good Life is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
