GPD WIN3 handheld PC gaming console hits IndieGoGo

Matt RyanBy Matt RyanJanuary 18, 2021

GPD WIN3, the latest generation of the GPD Technology’s series of handheld gaming PCs, opened its IndieGoGo campaign last week, giving early adopters a chance to pre-order the system at a reduced price.

The GPD WIN3 is a handheld Windows 10 gaming device with a Switch-like form factor, promising “AAA-level” games running at 60 FPS. Instead of the clamshell design used in previous generations, the WIN3 uses a slider design, with a 5.5 inch screen in the middle that slides up to reveal a haptic touch keyboard underneath. Gamepad controls sit either side of the screen and keyboard, with two analogue sticks that support L3/R3 functionality, four face buttons on the right and a D-pad on the left, and shoulder buttons (including analogue L2/R2).

There are two different models available, one with an Intel Core i7 1165G7 CPU and the other with a Core i5 1135G7. Aside from that, the specs are the same: Intel Iris Xe GPU, 16GB of LPDDR4x 4266 memory, a 1TB SSD, and Thunderbolt 4 connection. The i7 model is available in either black or silver, while the i5 is only in black.

If you want to see it in action, there are plenty of videos both on the campaign page and GPD’s Twitter showing various games running on the WIN3, including Tekken 7, Marvel’s Avengers, World of Warcraft, and even the demanding Microsoft Flight Simulator.

There’s also a docking station as an optional add-on for the GPD WIN3, with an HDMI port to connect to an external monitor or TV. It’s also got three USB Type-A ports, a USB Type-C port, and an RJ45 ethernet port. Even if you don’t opt for the docking station, the Thunderbolt 4 port in the system itself can be used to output video to another display.

IndieGoGo orders are expected to ship in May this year. Ordering through the IndieGoGo campaign, here’s how much a GPD WIN3 will set you back:

    • i7 1165G7: USD$899 / HKD $6,972 / NZD $1,1260
    • i7-1165G7 + dock: USD $949 / HKD $7,360 / NZD $1,330
    • i5-1135G7: USD $799 / HKD $6,197 / NZD $1,120
    • 15-1135G7 + dock: USD $849 / HKD $6,585 / NZD $1,190

Here are the system’s full specs, as compared to last year’s GPD Win Max:

At the time of writing, just a few days into the campaign, the GPD WIN3 has already raised HKD $14.4 million—dramatically exceeding its HKD $200,000 target.
