Good Luck Baby! is a yuri visual novel about finding your place in the world

Matt RyanBy Matt RyanJune 19, 2022

The folks behind Love Bakudan are back with another game, and while it looks a very different in tone from that steamy adventure, it heart is in the same place. Good Luck Baby! is “an adventure/mystery yuri visual novel about falling in love, saving the world, and finding your place within it,” currently seeking funding on Kickstarter and due out in (northern) Winter 2022.

Set in Japan in 2002, Good Luck Baby! is a kinetic visual novel (that is, linear with no dialogue choices or narrative branches) about the blossoming love between an unlikely couple of high schoolers: the unlucky Hifumi Tanaka and famous delinquent Kasumi Itou. But this young love takes a turn for the strange when a baby with wings and a halo shows up on Kasumi’s doorstep. Good luck seems to follow the cheerful lil’ Oda wherever he goes, but there’s a shadow looming, too…

From that premise, Good Luck Baby! promises a story about true love, found family, and finding happiness in the most unexpected places. That’s woven through a mix of drama, mystery, and lighthearted comedy, with artwork by mpmrpjb that looks gorgeous in the character profiles revealed so far.

“As two lesbians, we wanted to follow our hearts and make games that really appealed to our own tastes,” developer Noodletub Games explained in unveiling Good Luck Baby! “We wanted to explore not just romantic love between women, but also the safety and comfort that often comes with the subject of found family. We wanted to create something that was not just heartwarming, but also interesting in a way that allows people of all ages and walks of life to see that there is a world waiting for them with open arms, too. It means so much to us to be able to share our stories with the world, and we hope everyone gets as much joy out of experiencing them as we do creating them.”

Good Luck Baby! is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, ahead of a planned release on PC later this year. It reached its initial target within the first 24 hours, with additional funding going towards a number of stretch goals, including extra scenes, extended artwork, and additional story routes. Pledging at least CAD $12 (about $15 NZD) gets you a digital copy of the game when it comes out, with higher pledges including other rewards like digital comics or your pet featured in the game.
