A new Final Fantasy XVI teaser site sheds some more light on the setting and main characters for the upcoming action RPG, as well as some impressive key artwork.
Final Fantasy XVI takes place in Valisthea, “a land blessed in the light of the Mothercrystals”. Great powers have developed around these mountains of aether-rich crystals, but the spread of the Blight is threatening the uneasy peace that exists between these realms.
Valisthea is also home to Dominants—individuals blessed (or cursed, depending one’s perspective) with the power to summon a powerful eikon that resides within them. In some realms, Dominants are revered for their strength, but in others, they’re feared, or forced to be weapons of war.

At the centre of Final Fantasy XVI is Clive Rosfield, firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria and the elder brother of the Dominant of the Phoenix, Joshua. Clive is dedicated to mastering the blade and protecting Joshua, until a tragedy at the hands of the dark Eikon, Ifrit, sets him on a path of vengeance that Joshua inevitably gets caught up in. A third key player is Jill Warrick, a ward of Rosaria who’s grown up alongside Clive and Joshua and become as much a part of the Rosfield family as they are.
Finally, the teaser site revealed some gorgeous pieces of artwork for Final Fantasy XVI, including the key artwork, character designs, and some location concepts.
Final Fantasy XVI was announced during Sony’s PlayStation 5 showcase in September as a timed PS5 console exclusive. It’s an action RPG, directed by Hiroshi Takai (The Last Remnant), with Naoki Yoshida (Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn) as producer.
