Earlier this year, Kadokawa Games announced Demon Gaze Extra, an enhanced version of Experience Inc’s 2013 dungeon RPG Demon Gaze bound for Switch and PlayStation 4 in Japan. Today, we’ve finally got word on an international release, thanks to Clouded Leopard Entertainment: December 9, 2021.
Taking place in a desolate land covered in demon-infested labyrinths, Demon Gaze casts players as a bounty hunter armed with a magical eye that can be used to fight, summon, and control those demons—thus allowing him to explore the depths of those dungeons and uncover the mysteries behind the region’s destruction. It’s a grid-based crawler of the Wizardry and Etrian Odyssey ilk, with a focus on exploring mazes and solving puzzles in order to venture deeper.
Demon Gaze Extra expands on that base with a handful of new extras. Some of these are things aimed at making the experience a little more inviting for dungeon RPG newcomers, like a more streamlined autopilot feature and the option to retry from the beginning of a battle if you get wiped out. It also packs remastered visuals, and a handy new high-speed battle function.
But perhaps the biggest additions are a new class and a new item synthetization tool. The Machina job unlocks around the middle of the game, joining the seven existing options for the mercenaries you can recruit to join your quest (Fighter, Samurai, Paladin, Ranger, Assassin, Wizard, and Healer). Item synthesis doesn’t unlock until you complete the game and start a subsequent playthrough, but with it, you can customise legendary equipment.

For the international release, Demon Gaze Extra will include both English and Japanese audio tracks, with subtitles in English, Traditional Chinese, and Korean. The release announcement specifically mentioned North America, Europe, and Asia (outside Japan); I’ve reached out to Clouded Leopard to confirm whether the game is headed for New Zealand and Australia, too.
Demon Gaze Extra is releasing both physically and digitally at a standard price of USD $59.99, alongside a Digital Deluxe Edition (USD $65.99) for Switch and a Digital Premium Edition (USD $69.99) for PlayStation 4. Both the Digital Deluxe Edition and Digital Premium Edition include the Perfect Jewel Set DLC, while Premium also gets a digital soundtrack. The first print run of the packaged edition will come with a reversible cover, and all versions are eligible for an “early bird bonus”, including a Healing Wand and Armor Gem Assortment Set DLC items.
