Crimzon Clover: World EXplosion brings its bullet hell action to Switch

Matt RyanBy Matt RyanOctober 23, 2020

Crimzon Clover: World EXplosion is coming to Switch on October 29, bringing this fan-favourite shoot-em-up to console for the first time since its 2011 debut along with a new update.

Crimzon Clover is the creation of Japanese indie developer Yotsubane, delivering an intense bullet hell experience to rival CAVE’s creations. World EXplosion adds a new ARRANGE feature for all game modes, adding a bunch of new mechanics like stacking weapon upgrades, revenge shots from downed foes, and the like.

    From the press release:

Take control of a high-spec fighter and destroy massive waves of enemies while dodging their unending rain of bullets. Each of the three ships has its own style of standard firing and a unique appearance. The firing style is translated beautifully as you amp your way into BREAK MODE and DOUBLE BREAK MODE! As you blast through your foes in each stage you can collect stars that will raise your score. Each enemy destroyed helps fill your Break Meter, which allows you to wipe the screen with powerful bombs or, if you have the patience, blast off into BREAK MODE to add a huge boost to your firepower and let you rip through enemies with ease. That’s not the extent of your strength though, as having a full Break Meter while in BREAK MODE will allow you to enter the ultimately destructive DOUBLE BREAK MODE. Watch your enemies crumble in fear as you turn the tide and fill the screen with your own hellacious rain of firepower!

New to World EXplosion is a vastly altered take on the existing game: the ARRANGE version! Every game Mode has an ARRANGE version available to play, and these new takes on the existing Modes turn everything on its head:

    • Utilize the newly added Multi-Gauge to give yourself unique power-ups based on items collected from downed foes!
    • Destroy foes, then dodge their last-ditch revenge shots for an added challenge in the new BOOST Mode.
    • Shoot enemy bullets out of the sky directly in the new UNLIMITED Mode.
    • And much more!

Additionally, the Switch edition of the game supports full gameplay in handheld mode, including control optimizations for vertical screen orientations so that those looking to have a true arcade experience on the go can fulfill that wish handily!

Can you pilot your craft through the bullet massacre the enemies have prepared for you? Or will your ship become just another bump amidst the endless wreckage beneath your wings?

Crimzon Clover: World EXplosion comes to Switch on October 29 via Nintendo eShop, priced at USD $19.99 / ¥1980 / €19.99. There’ll also be a Steam update at a later date, though details of that are still to be announced.
