Hey all! It’s Matt here, owner and editor of Shindig. I’ve got a big announcement: Shindig is teaming up with 8-Bit Island and Xenojay for the launch of a new Aotearoa-focused game site: Yeah Nah Gaming.
I worked with Jordan (aka Xenojay) and 8-Bit’s Brian and Blair back in the NZGamer.com days. They’re fantastic folks and talented writers, so it’s really exciting to be getting the band back together, so to speak.
Yeah Nah Gaming’s mission statement remains much the same as Shindig’s: good old-fashion written reviews, news, and commentary for all things gaming, tech, and pop culture, with a Kiwi focus.
What does this mean for Shindig?
In the short-term, for the next month or two, I’ll still be updating Shindig with articles cross-posted from Yeah Nah Gaming (and trying my best to clear out a bit of a review backlog—sorry, PR folks I’ve dropped the ball on!) After that, Shindig will wind down and go on indefinite hiatus. I’m not planning to close the site at this stage—there’s too much stuff here that I want to keep available as long as I can. That said, the plan could change in the future if circumstances change.
Why the change?
If you read Shindig regularly (or even semi-regularly, or even just every now and then!) you probably would have noticed that things have slowed down a lot in the last couple of years. I’ve had a lot going on—not least of which has been becoming a parent, with all the joy and exhaustion and love and stress and chaos and wonder that comes with that. With an increasingly busy day job on top of that, and despite the huge amount of help I’ve had from our regular contributors, I just haven’t had the time or energy to commit to solo running this site as I did in the past.
Yeah Nah Gaming isn’t just a chance to share the workload (though that doesn’t hurt), but a combining of powers that’ll make a stronger editorial team and higher-quality, more regular writing for you all to enjoy.
So while Shindig gets ready to say farewell, be sure to bookmark Yeah Nah Gaming – your new home for all things gaming, Kiwi style.
