Kandagawa Jet Girls splashes onto PS4 and Steam August 25

After a successful Japanese launch earlier this year, the mash-up of jet ski racing and third-person shooter that is Kandagawa Jet Girls will see a global release on August 25, for PlayStation 4 and PC (via Steam).

Kandagawa Jet Girls is a cross-media project involving both an anime series and videogame, created in collaboration between Marvelous, Kadokawa, Egg Firm, and Senran Kagura creator Takaki Kenichiro. It takes place in a world where “Jet Race” has become a popular sport—jet ski racing, essentially, but with an added element of water gun combat. Each Jet Race team includes two people, one to pilot the jet ski (the Jetter) and one to play the role of the Shooter.

Both the anime and the game tell the story of Namiki Rin, who moves to Tokyo to pursue her dream of becoming a legendary Jetter like her mother. She forms a Jet Race team with one Aoi Misa, and what follows is a story of rivalry and unlikely friendships—classic sports anime stuff, with an obvious concept to build a videogame around.

As well as a Story Mode following Rin’s journey, the Kandagawa Jet Girls game has a few offline free-play modes, four different mini-games, and casual and ranked online multiplayer modes for up to four players. The game offers a range of customisation options for your team’s uniform and jet machine, as well as the ability to fine-tune performance.

For its Western release, Kandagawa Jet Girls will include Senran Kagura guest characters Ryōbi and Ryōna in the base game, rather than as DLC like they were in the Japanese release. Other DLC characters will be released post-launch, including Asuka and Yumi, Ikaruga and Yomi, Homura and Hikage, and Murasaki and Mirai.

In Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, Kandagawa Jet Girls will be a digital-only release, priced at £39.99 / €49.99 (with other regions’ prices to be confirmed at launch). There’ll be a Digital Limited Edition for PlayStation 4 which includes the game, a digital soundtrack app, and an avatar and theme pack; that’ll cost £49.99 / €59.99. The Steam version is getting a slightly different Digital Deluxe Edition with the game, digital soundtrack, and the Maid Bikini and Bunny Costume character outfits.

For its North American PS4 release, Kandagawa Jet Girls is getting a physical special edition called the “Racing Hearts Edition“, which comes with the game, an exclusive 64-page art book, and a two-disc soundtrack.

The Kandagawa Jet Girls anime aired between October 2019 and January 2020. It’s available to stream on AnimeLab (Australia and New Zealand only) and HIDIVE.
